Gerhard Garden

CALLING FOR GERHARD GARDEN VOLUNTEERS

Thank you for your interest in the wonderful Gerhard Garden here at John Malcom Elementary!  Our school garden is lovingly run entirely by volunteer parents and grandparents.  We grow vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers using only organic gardening methods.  In the garden, students learn responsibility as they develop an appreciation and connection to nature. The garden curriculum incorporates State learning standards and S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into unique hands-on experiences for our scholars.

There are always exciting things going on in the garden and we can always use help!  There are many ways that you can get involved -
no green thumb is required and you don't even have to get your hands dirty (unless you want to!).  We need volunteers to help out in the garden during recess, watering help during school breaks, help with organizing fundraisers and events, there are even some do-at-home type of jobs involving research or paperwork.
