Math-
Unit 5 : Next up is division with double digit divisors and decimals. This always proves to be difficult when students struggle with multiplication facts. Please use the variety of online apps(5-10 minutes daily) to help your student find success. Also, use math strategies with them in the real world EVERYDAY!!! Making sense of numbers and how we use them ALL THE TIME will help as we understand reasonableness of our answers.
We will also continue to practicing deconstructing word problems with fractions.
Science - How Big? How Far? Students created scaled models of Earth- Moon Relationship and Solar System distances. What can your young scientist tell you about these objects in our night sky? Next up, constellations.
Social Studies - Unit 4: Life in the Colonies - Colonial School Day is just around the corner! The "New World" is teeming with Europeans and how to make new lives for themselves. Look for information about our special day soon!
COLONIAL DAY: March 19th - Volunteer opportunities for this fun filled day will be in Thursday folder (2/27)

FRIENDSHIP MONTH
JERSEY DAY - HONORING KOBE
Welcome the 2019-20 School Year! I am excited for another enriching school year with my 5th grade scholars. This will be my 22nd year at Malcom - where has the time gone! I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th at Malcom - with 5th being my all time favorite.
I have lived in Laguna Niguel since 1976 and attended Marco Forster and Dana Hills, followed by San Diego State and National University. My husband and I have 3 children all who went through Malcom. My two older children live in Arizona and Northern California with their families. Our youngest attends Texas Christian University where she is studying Environmental Biology
I enjoy the many aspects of teaching and seeing the new heights that the scholars soar to. I also enjoy reading, taking the time to enjoy the beaches and deserts, and cooking. Visiting my granddaughters( 2 year old Piper and 4 year old Remington) is also a new favorite.
I look forward to meeting many new families this year and watching all Mariners make a difference in themselves and the world as they lead through G.R.I.T.
CUSD LOG-ON PROCEDURES
- Students should use their Capo email for log-in and their 7 digit password. For example: 27butterworthjs Their student number will stay with them until graduation from CUSD in 2027(hence, the 27before their name). Also, when they log onto any of the web based district programs they will need to add "a" after their password (EX: 00000a)
