MESSAGE TO OUR MARINER FAMILIES

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  We are excited to have you as a member of the Malcom family.  At John S. Malcom Elementary School, we are all scholars, learning from one another and celebrating our scholarly strides.  We value quality work, a positive attitude, and most of all, best effort.  Our Mariners demonstrate the Three R’s daily by building Relationships, showing Respect, and being Responsible.  We focus on making a difference in ourselves and in our world.

I am so proud of our students, staff, and families for coming together amid a global pandemic to provide high quality education and enrichment opportunities for our Mariners.  Our team has learned a lot along the way, and we continue to improve our practice as educators in this ever-evolving time.  Our highly-qualified teachers and dedicated support staff work diligently to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all students on our campus.  We challenge our students to stretch as learners.  We also identify and support students’ areas of need.  Together as an educational team, we are committed to thinking creatively and working collaboratively to ensure success for every student. As we navigate uncharted waters together, we will rely on our crewmates (students, staff, parents, and community partners) to inspire and encourage us along the way!

As always, the Malcom educational family welcomes partnerships with parents and community members in our pursuit of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) learning opportunities.  We invite you to join us in our scholarly pursuits by actively engaging in your student's education at home, volunteering in classrooms/school programs, and joining our parent organizations.  We are always seeking parent helpers in the Gerhard Garden. This year, volunteers are welcome on campus.  Classrooms will each determine their own need for volunteer help (library, classroom, Meet the Masters art lessons, chaperones for field trips, etc.). All volunteers must be registered through the district, and volunteers working with students must hold Tier I volunteer clearance. Be sure to check out our school website, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for weekly updates and important information.  I look forward to getting to know you and learning with you this year!
