LETTER TO THE PARENTS

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Capistrano Unified School District makes every effort to provide support services for your children that will assist in their successful academic, social and emotional growth.
To promote these efforts CUSD Counselors provide services to all students through a multi-tiered system of social, emotional and behavioral supports. The first tier (prevention) is provided to all students through classroom guidance lessons that focus on topics tailored to the needs of the school. Topics covered include empathy, emotion management, problem solving and skills for learning (K-3). Second tier services (early intervention) may include individual and group counseling. Counselors are also available to provide information regarding community resources. School counseling is short-term and does not involve therapy or long-term counseling. School counselors play an invaluable role in building a positive school climate and supporting the academic, social, emotional and behavioral development of students.

Conversations between the student and the counselor are considered confidential. However, if a counselor has reason to believe that a student is being abused, neglected or is a danger to himself or others, the counselor has the legal, ethical and professional responsibility to report such concerns to parents or the appropriate authorities.

If there is anything that may impact your child (e.g. death in the family, divorce, anxiety) that you would like the counselor to know or if you would like the counselor to contact you please feel free fill out the parent referral form, email counselor, or contact the office to leave a message to schedule an appointment.
